About Us
2010 Pear Fest
This autumn pear lovers are invited to indulge in pear fare and celebrate the versatility of the classic pear at Pear Fest on Easter Saturday (3 April 2010) at the McIntosh Centre, Shepparton Showground,
Organised by Fruit Growers Victoria and
supported by Goulburn Valley Women in Horticulture , Pear Fest
allows the community to celebrate the pear in the heartland of pear
country, where pears are a livelihood for many families and
where 85% of Australian pears are grown.
The drought and adverse climatic conditions
have impacted
detrimentally on the local growers; this festival is an
opportunity to promote, celebrate and demonstrate the added value of pears
grown in this region.’
Hosted by celebrity chef Janelle Bloom, the
festival
will showcase the rich traditions of Australian pears whilst
offering consumers, local businesses and growers the chance to
celebrate the pear season, sample the year’s harvest and learn more
about this family favourite of the fruit bowl.
